Edible Cookie Dough Recipe (Easy!)

This eggless cookie dough is SO EASY to throw together. It only takes like 2 minutes to gather the ingredients and mix them up and then you’re ready to eat delicious, irresistible cookie dough (that is totally egg free and edible!)

I’ll be honest I always eat a spoonful or two of cookie dough when I’m making a batch of cookies, and I lick the batter clean when I’m making brownies or cakes. I mean, who doesn’t love licking the bowl clean after making a batch of cookies, or eating a small grab of it along the way.

When I was pregnant I was always extra careful about what I ate, so I didn’t want to eat any raw eggs, just in case, and this cookie dough came to the rescue.

But even when I’m not pregnant I still crave cookie dough, and its always better to be safe. And honestly sometimes I want cookie dough even when I’m not making a big batch of cookies, so this is the solution.

I’ve made cookie dough truffles and about a half dozen cookies for two, so why hadn’t I thought of combining the two ideas and making some edible cookie dough that I could just eat by the spoonful.

(Now let me warn you, there are some things saying that raw flour is also bad for you – I haven’t had any problems with it, but be warned). You can heat the flour hot enough to remove any risk of bacteria by baking it in the oven at 350 for 5 minutes, or microwaving it for about 30 seconds. Or you can try using Heat Treated Flour, I talk about that in my Halloween Cookie Dough Pops post.

I love this Easy Edible Cookie Dough Recipe for one

Making up a a bowlful of this edible cookie dough for two (or lets be honest, edible cookie dough for one) is the perfect late night treat after a long day of work, or a long day with kids, or just because you’re craving it.

This recipe makes the perfect small bowlful, so its just right for you – or you and a friend if you’re being generous. Just like my chocolate chip cookies for two, but in dough (eggless dough) form.

Eggless Cookie Dough ingredients

  • UNSALTED buttersoftened – keeps the dough rich, held together and with that cookie dough flavor
  • brown sugar and granulated sugar – these sweeten the cookie dough
  • vanilla extract – adds a nice flavor
  • whole milk – this replaces any eggs in the cookie dough, to add extra liquid. You can use your favorite dairy free milk as well.
  • salt – adds a nice flavor to balance out the sweetness. If you are using salted butter SKIP the extra salt
  • all purpose flour – heat treat your flour by zapping it in the microwave, or cooking it in the oven to reduce any risks
  • chocolate chips – I love using mini chocolate chips so they are more spread throughout the dough

How to make Edible Cookie Dough

  1. Add your butter, brown sugar, and sugar to a small bowl and cream them together for a couple minutes
  2. Add in the vanilla extract and milk and stir until combined.
  3. Add in the salt, and flour, and mix until you have a nice soft cookie dough.
  4. Add more flour, if the cookie dough is too soft and wet.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips, and enjoy right away.

You can either eat the cookie dough by the spoonful or you can roll it up into little cookie dough balls and eat those! The cookie dough balls are super good immediately, or you can pop the balls in the fridge or freezer for whenever you need a little bite of cookie dough! (Which is pretty much always, right?)

How to store this Edible Cookie Dough Recipe

The cookie dough should stay good in the fridge for about 1 week in an airtight container. Or stored in the freezer for 3 to 6 months.

Edible Cookie Dough Recipe FAQs

Why can’t you bake edible cookie dough?

Homemade edible cookie dough is missing key ingredients to allow the dough to bake into delicious cookies. It does not contain eggs or leavening agents, which are key ingredients which would allow the cookies to rise and life when baked. And you will not end up a hard cookie, not a soft and chewy cookie.

Why is my edible cookie dough gummy?

Edible cookie dough can turn gummy because you added too much milk to the cookie dough, or because you overmixed it. Because this is a small batch recipe, that can be mixed in one bowl, once you add the milk and flour you only want to mix until the dough is combined.

Why is my edible cookie dough liquidy?

Cookie dough can turn out runny from having too much liquid in it. It can easily be thickened by adding 1 or 2 more tablespoons of flour to the mixture. Start with 1 then add more as needed.
