How to Make Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix
Be sure to see the recipe card below for full ingredients & instructions!
- First, take a large bowl and mix together all of the ingredients.
- To make the hot chocolate, add 1/3 cup of the mix to milk or water.
- Then serve with mini marshmallows and chocolate chips if desired. Enjoy!
Ingredient Notes
- Powdered Sugar: Adds sweetness and dissolves better than granulated sugar.
- Powdered Instant Milk: Also known as nonfat dry milk. Adds creaminess to the cocoa mix.
- Powdered Coffee Creamer: Adds richness. Choose a flavored powdered coffee creamer for seasonal cocoa mixes.
- Cocoa Powder: Gives this hot chocolate mix its rich, chocolaty flavor. Use whatever cocoa powder you prefer, as long as it is unsweetened.
What kind of cocoa powder should I use in homemade hot chocolate mix?
You can use whatever cocoa powder you have on hand, as long as it is unsweetened. Choose natural cocoa powder for a more natural taste, and use Dutch-process cocoa powder for a smoother taste.
Can I use homemade hot chocolate powder instead of cocoa powder in baking recipes?
No! Although hot chocolate powder does contain cocoa powder, it also has extra sugar and dried dairy that will spell disaster for your baked goods!
Should I mix this homemade hot chocolate mix with water or milk?
You can use either! For a creamier cocoa, use whole milk. For a lighter cup, use plain water.
