Dried Parsley

So far this week in our dehydrated herbs in the air fryer series, we have showed you how to dehydrate basil, dehydrate rosemary and dehydrate mint and today is the turn of dried parsley.

But whilst I love what we have made already for you, I prefer today’s dried parsley.

And that is because, I don’t know about you, but I use dried parsley in a LOT of different recipes.

Its just one of those seasonings that is great for many recipes and also a very good one for adding a little flavour to something when you are not confident adding seasonings to food.

Plus, when you have been growing your own fresh parsley and have too much and need a quick use for it, dried parsley can become your new go to air fryer recipe.

Can You Dry Parsley?

Yes, you can dry parsley and you will love turning your fresh parsley to dried parsley. Even better, the dried parsley will last up to a year, if kept in an airtight container, giving it a much longer time to use up, compared to fresh parsley.

Can You Dry Herbs In An Air Fryer?

Yes, yes, yes, you can dry herbs in an air fryer and you will love the results. If you have an air fryer with a dehydrator setting, then its great for drying herbs.

You could do a wide range of different favourite herbs. We love to do basil, oregano, parsley, rosemary, and thyme.

And what’s even better, is the process is similar between the different herbs, meaning achieve one, and you can rinse and repeat on many.

Best Way To Dry Parsley?

For drying parsley, the BEST way of doing so is the air fryer. The air fryer is fast, it does the job just like a traditional old fashioned dehydrator does, but in a fraction of the usual dehydrate time.

Plus, because its all about the air circulating you have the chance to do so without having to leave the door open like you do with an oven.

Can I Use Dry Parsley Instead Of Fresh?

Yes, you certainly can use parsley you have dried with the air fryer, instead of fresh parsley.

If you are wondering if dried parsley has flavour, then stop worrying, because it tastes amazing and heightens the flavour.

When you dehydrate parsley in the air fryer, it keeps the best bit and you lose all those stems and are just left with a great flavour.

Then when a recipe calls for fresh parsley, then swap it out for dried parsley leaves.

Can You Dehydrate Parsley?

Yes, you can, and many people have been dehydrating fresh parsley for many years, with the plan on going from fresh parsley to dried.

My old neighbour in Portugal would dehydrate everything she could think of. She was a very frugal lady, and I would often see food on her front wall that she was dehydrating in the sunshine.

Can You Dehydrate In An Air Fryer?

Yes, you sure can. I have tried many different fresh foods in the air fryer, and they have all dehydrated very well.

Whilst we are showing you today how to turn fresh basil to dry basil, fruits work very well such as dehydrated orange slices, dehydrated cherries, dehydrated mango, dehydrated lemon slices, or my personal favourite dehydrated banana chips in the air fryer.

Dry Parsley Ingredients

Parsley – There are many types of fresh parsley, but I much prefer to dry curly parsley. Though of course, you can use whatever you have. You can also do as much or as little as you like. We did 2 plants of curly parsley.

Dehydrator – We also used my stackable dehydrator that I bought specifically for the Ninja Foodi. If you are dehydrating parsley with an air fryer, I recommend something similar. I love this one because it allows you to have several racks of fresh parsley leaves dehydrating at once.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this dry parsley recipe it has just been our Ninja Foodi. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of recipes including dehydrating.

Plus, we recommend you head over to our air fryer recipes category as we have more than 500 tried and tested air fryer recipes and have been air frying for 10 years. And nearly all are suitable for the Ninja Foodi air fryer setting.

How To Dry Parsley In Air Fryer?

  • Separate. Remove the parsley leaves from the stems and then if they need it give them a wash and pat them dry.
  • Load. Add your fresh parsley to your dehydrator shelves. Start at the bottom, clipping on each shelf as it fills up.
  • Load. Then add your stackable dehydrator into the Ninja Foodi and place the air fryer lid down.
  • Cook. Set the temperature to 55c/130f and the function to dehydrator and then dry parsley for 1 hour 30 minutes or until fully dried and like dried out mini leaves in the park.
  • Finish. Then once the dehydrator is done, remove the dried parsley leaves and load into a blender. Blend until you have the texture of dried parsley. Load into an airtight container and consume in dried parsley recipes within a year.

And I am sure you can see now how easy it is drying parsley in air fryer and why you should be doing it too!

How Long To Dehydrate Parsley?

We recommend 90 minutes for dehydrating parsley in the air fryer. Though we note that in some air fryers its quicker than others.

We were also quite surprised by how much the dehydrate time for dried herbs can vary between different herbs, so do keep an eye on it.

What You Need To Dehydrate In A Ninja Foodi?

In a traditional dehydrator you have a lot of shelves that you can fill with food you want to dry. Of course a Ninja Foodi is one big pot so how do you do it? You buy the Ninja Foodi dehydrator accessory and it is a stack of shelves just like a traditional dehydrator and can store a lot on it and then place it inside of your Ninja Foodi cooking pot.

How Long Does Dried Parsley Last?

Dehydrated parsley will last the same time as dried parsley that you bought already dried. As long as it is kept in an airtight container in a cool pantry.

Though in the Milner house we love to use dried parsley in recipes, and it will often be gone within a month.

What Temperature Do You Dehydrate Herbs In An Air Fryer?

The recommended temperature for dehydrating or drying herbs in the air fryer is 55c/130f.

This is also the preset temperature that comes with the Ninja Foodi dehydrate button.

I find that higher and you will cook the herbs instead of dehydrating.

What To Do With Dried Parsley?

For using dried parsley, we recommend any recipes that call for dried parsley. Such as slow cooker shepherd’s pie, air fryer gammon dinner, soup maker boxing day soup, thermomix cheese sauce, or even instant pot shin of beef.

Notes

Quantity. Just like with cooking spinach, parsley leaves don’t produce a lot when dehydrated. I recommend doing at least a plant otherwise you might be disappointed.
