One of the pillars of the Montessori learning method is trust-based education. I know that many parents, for fear that their children will hurt themselves or go through some suffering, try to make life easier. However, it is important to believe in children’s capacities and promote safe spaces to experiment in their environment, strengthening their confidence freely.

The Montessori learning method aims to enable children to be formed as independent people and create and learn on their own. However, this cannot be done if the child does not believe in his/her abilities if he/she hasn’t self-confidence.

To develop children’s confidence, the accompaniment of the adult is essential. The adult is a guide or a point of reference for the child, and it should not be the one who hinders this process of growth and learning.

The development of trust involves a fantastic process in which the child and the adult learn. To begin to build trust with children, you can do some activities such as: allow children to eat alone, and it does not matter if they stain or make a mess; the important thing here is they can clean; with practice, they will do better.

Children can also do home activities related to household chores such as sweeping, mopping, and washing dishes. Children will make disorder, more than expected. Still, if we prevent them from doing these activities, they will not want to do them later.

It is also essential that they feel that they have all the autonomy and ability to choose their clothes, even if it is not appropriate. There are many home activities that children can do to strengthen their confidence and independence, just like this easy Valentines arts and crafts activity.
