Since i am too lazy to grab a map, which states generally have rust free cars but are within reasonable driving distance from Toronto. Florida would probably be my farthest drive (24 hours).. Any ideas? IP: Logged

Any town not in the snow belt region or 50 miles from the ocean. Of course you have to find out what the vehicle history is and where it's been all it's life. ------------------ IP: Logged

I absolutely WILL NOT own any car that has resided in: Canada, Michigan, Pennsylvania, etc. For me, close enough that I wil consider buying is: ohio(surprisingly not many rusty cars here), Indiana, southern Illinois, and just about anything south of Ohio is fine. I have a thing against Canadian owned cars, Michigan roads suck, I think rust is required for registration in that state, and penn cars always seem like rust buckets when I see them around here. My formula with its entire life being a daily driver in all weather, is literally rust free. My coupe, has some rust on those radiator support bar things, but thats it. Niether have rust in the trunk or elsewhere. IP: Logged

iM in the middle of Ohio and somebody lied to you - Theres lots of rust here, I have to fix them. Ive had pickups that the beds are so bad you can yank the bed clear off with a couple of pulls. Best states to get rust free cars are calif, ariz, okla, texas. Not florida, the salt air rusts them too from the inside. IP: Logged

The problem with cars in the southern states is the heat, there are lots of good-looking cars here in Florida but I wouldnt drive one cross-country. Now if the heat is taken in consideration and the car is properly maintained I would change my story, but who would sell such a peach. IP: Logged

You can find decent cars in the SE US, but there's still plenty of humidity to cause rust over time, but mainly surface rust. The best junkyard finds will be in southwestern states where there is no snow (salt) AND low humidity. I can remember my dad getting my uncle to ship a 60's Dodge truck steering box from an Arizona junkyard. The part looked like it was off a 5 year old car and it was 30 years old! Colorado is pretty good. When I move here from Minnesota, I couldn't believe all the older Mustangs and VWs driving around without rust. IP: Logged

Midwest to Southwest is probably the best place... of course its more than a 24 hr drive too. Parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, Texas etc etc. The northeast uses road salt in the winter which causes all the rust. Southeast isn't bad, but I simply have seen more old cars out west that are in good shape than anywhere else. Depending on the car you are looking for, you may be able to find one in the NE as long as it hasn't seen much winter duty. IP: Logged

Wiat wait wait, Form toronto Canada to Florida you would drive but not to California? From south NJ to mid Florida its a 24 hour drive. Cali would be closer me thinks but then again i dont have a map of Canada. "so how'd your first day of teaching go? ------------------ IP: Logged

Wouldn't rule it out for a really good car, that's where I got mine. LA to Detroit in 32 hours and that included a 6 hour nap. ------------------ IP: Logged

I already know.. 1967-1968 Mustang fastback (imperative).. No engine or transmission (i'd like them, but not picky) as long as it is set up for a manual transmission). Doesn't need paint. IP: Logged

Alabama has some great low rust cars. I picked up a sweet old fastback Mustang that is completly original-paint, interior, and the engine still has the original belts/hoses on it. 45,000 mile, one owner "older" lady had it in her garage. I almost hated only giving her $250 for it The Talladega Hall of Fame and Museum is already wanting it in their exhibition hall. IP: Logged

My dad got a '39 Pontiac touring coupe that is rust free for $500 in Alabama. It runs pretty good too. The paint was cracked and very badly faded and the seats were ruined but the body is great. IP: Logged

eastern MD, (I hear west gets more snow/ice) As long as you don't live right on the ocean you don't get much salt even in winter. My car originally came from eastern MD. Other than needing paint, you'd think it was only a few years old on the bottom. ------------------ IP: Logged

I'll take a spy shot tomorrow, but a neighbor has a 68 (Ithink) Mustang fastback killing a patch of weeds in his backyard. I wouldn't expect it be cheap. IP: Logged
